Indexing DownloadsFor guidance on the content and organisation of your index - See Guide on Making an Index (PDF 32KB) XML indexing
Indexing directly into a pdf of the XML typescript If you prefer to compile your index electronically you can ask your Production editor to arrange for a pdf of the XML typescript to be sent to you. When you receive your pdf you will need to open it in Acrobat Standard (not Acrobat Reader) You will need to work with the Advanced Commenting Toolbar Choose View > Toolbars > Advanced Commenting > Show Advanced Commenting Toolbar
Repeat steps 1 and 2 for each index term and number. See example below.
Note that it does not matter if your numbers are out of sequence or if some are omitted - all that matters is that each index term at each occurrence has its own unique number. After you have marked all you index terms onto your XML typescript you must type all index terms and their unique numbers in a separate Word document and sort these alphabetically. The alphabetical index from the pdf example above would look like this:
When you have completed your index, send your XML index pdf and Word file to your Production editor via email or on a CD. Note that if you send it by email you should split the XML pdf into several emails. See Indexing guidelines in the XML workflow for further instructions. LaTeX indexing - See Indexing guidelines in the LaTeX workflows 1/2 and LaTeX workflows 3/4 To view PDF files you may need Adobe Acrobat Reader™. |
