Cambridge English / English Language Teaching

Cambridge University Press welcomes letters of interest from prospective materials writers and proposals from authors in the field of English Language Teaching. You may either send:

  1. A letter of interest in materials writing.
  2. Submit your CV, a cover letter requesting that we consider you as a materials writer for upcoming projects, and 2-3 recent samples of English language teaching materials you have written. Tell us why you feel your background and classroom experience make you a good candidate to be a Cambridge writer. We will contact you if we have a project that matches your skills and experience. You may be asked to complete a writing test.

  3. A proposal for your work.
  4. Please include a description of the work, a brief rationale for the book/series, and a list of the possible components.

Your proposal should answer the following questions:

    • Which market sectors (high school, college, adult education, self-study, etc.) is the material intended for?
    • In which class/classes (skill area) and at which levels (beginning, intermediate, etc.) would the proposed series be used?
    • Which books/series compete with your proposed work? What are their strengths and weaknesses? What will be the distinctive feature(s) of your book/series that will differentiate it from other similar books?

Be sure to also include your CV and CVs for co-authors (if relevant).

Be aware that your proposal may be sent out for external review. The review process generally takes between 2-3 months.
